Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Rosen (1820-1891), diplomat olmakla beraber, asl\u0131nda \u00fcst derecelerde bir \u015eark uzman\u0131d\u0131r. \u015eark bilimleri ve dilleri sahas\u0131nda \u00f6nemli isimleri bar\u0131nd\u0131ran ailesinin sevkiyle, kendisi de bu sahaya y\u00f6nelmi\u015ftir. 1844 senesinde \u0130stanbul\u02bcda Prusya el\u00e7ili\u011fi terc\u00fcman\u0131 olarak bulunmu\u015f, 1852-1867 aras\u0131 Kud\u00fcs\u02bcte Prusya Konsoloslu\u011fu vazifesini ifa etmi\u015ftir. Telif etti\u011fi \u00e7e\u015fitli eserler hakk\u0131nda elinizdeki kitapta gerekli bilgi verilmektedir. En \u00f6nemli eseri olan T\u00fcrkiye Tarihi\u02bcni de Kud\u00fcs\u02bcte bulundu\u011fu s\u0131rada yazm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. 1867 ve 1875 y\u0131llar\u0131 aras\u0131nda Belgrad\u02bcdaki Kuzey Alman Konfederasyonu\u02bcnun (1871\u02bcden sonra Alman \u0130mparatorlu\u011fu) ba\u015fkonsoloslu\u011funu yapm\u0131\u015f ve 1875\u02bcte do\u011fdu\u011fu Detmold\u02bca geri d\u00f6nm\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr. Rosen\u2019in kaleme ald\u0131\u011f\u0131, Osmanl\u0131 Tarihi, T\u00fcrkiye Tarihi ismi alt\u0131nda 2 cilt olarak yay\u0131mlanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. \u00d6zellikle II. Mahmud d\u00f6nemiyle alakal\u0131 yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 orijinal \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalarla bildi\u011fimiz Prof. Dr. Kemal Beydilli\u2019nin terc\u00fcme etti\u011fi eserin birinci cildi olan bu \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma, Yeni\u00e7eri Oca\u011f\u0131\u2019n\u0131n kald\u0131r\u0131l\u0131\u015f\u0131ndan Sultan II. Mahmud\u2019un vefat\u0131na kadar d\u00f6nemi ele almaktad\u0131r. 1866 ve 1867 y\u0131llar\u0131nda bas\u0131lan T\u00fcrkiye Tarihi, \u00f6zellikle bir diplomat elinden \u00e7\u0131kan bir diplomasi tarihi olmas\u0131 sebebiyle ayr\u0131 bir \u00f6nem ta\u015f\u0131r. Bu anlamda eser, diplomatik mahfillerde dola\u015fan bilgiler \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131nda ve kulland\u0131\u011f\u0131 sair \u00f6nemli kaynaklar ve belgeler m\u00fcvacehesinde kaleme al\u0131nm\u0131\u015f \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli bir kaynakt\u0131r. Eser Sultan Mahmud\u02bcun vefat\u0131 ve o\u011flu Abd\u00fclmecid\u02bcin c\u00fclusuyla sona erer (1839). Rosen\u02bcin de\u011ferlendirmesini okuyal\u0131m: Sultan Mahmud \u00f6mr\u00fcn\u00fc, b\u00fct\u00fcn bu geli\u015fmelerin olumsuzluklar\u0131 i\u00e7inde ba\u015far\u0131s\u0131n\u0131n herhangi bir meyvesini tadamadan ge\u00e7irdi.
