Temel \u0130sl\u00e2m\u00ee k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fcn millete kendi diliyle \u00f6\u011fretilmesi gerekti\u011fi d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncesinden hareketle, 21 \u015eubat 1925 tarihinde TBMM\u2019de bir Kur\u2019\u00e2n-\u0131 Ker\u00eem terc\u00fcmesi ve tefsiri ile Sah\u00eeh-i Buh\u00e2r\u00ee muhtasar\u0131 Tecr\u00eed-i Sar\u00eeh terc\u00fcmesi haz\u0131rlat\u0131lmas\u0131na karar verildi. O d\u00f6nemde herkesin itimat edebilece\u011fi nitelikte bir Kur\u2019\u00e2n terc\u00fcmesi mevcut de\u011fildi. B\u00f6yle zor bir i\u015fin alt\u0131ndan kalkabilecek kapasiteye sahip birka\u00e7 ki\u015fi aras\u0131ndan herkes bilhassa Safah\u00e2t ve \u0130stiklal Mar\u015f\u0131 \u015fairi Mehmed \u00c2kif\u2019i i\u015faret ediyordu. Tefsirin Elmal\u0131l\u0131 Hamdi Efendi\u2019ye, Tecr\u00eed-i Sar\u00eeh terc\u00fcmesinin de Babanz\u00e2de Ahmed Na\u00eem Bey\u2019e yapt\u0131r\u0131lmas\u0131 kararla\u015ft\u0131r\u0131ld\u0131. Mehmed \u00c2kif ise ba\u015fta Kur\u2019\u00e2n terc\u00fcmesini kabul etmedi, yo\u011fun \u0131srarlar kar\u015f\u0131s\u0131nda uzun zaman direndi. Fakat uzun \u00e7abalar sonucu bu vazifeyi Ekim 1925\u2019te kabul etmek zorunda kald\u0131. Terc\u00fcmeyi kabul\u00fcn\u00fc\u0308 m\u00fcteakip M\u0131s\u0131r\u2019a giden \u00c2kif, vard\u0131ktan birka\u00e7 ay sonra 1926 y\u0131l\u0131nda ba\u015flad\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131 7 y\u0131l sonra 1932\u2019de tamamlad\u0131. Ancak terc\u00fcmeyi bitirdi\u011finde, o s\u0131ralarda T\u00fcrkiye\u2019deki camilerde namaz k\u0131ld\u0131r\u0131l\u0131rken Kur\u2019\u00e2n\u2019\u0131n asl\u0131 yerine terc\u00fcmesinin okunaca\u011f\u0131 \u015fayialar\u0131 kula\u011f\u0131na gelince, yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 terc\u00fcmenin bu ama\u00e7la kullan\u0131laca\u011f\u0131ndan endi\u015felenerek s\u00f6zle\u015fmesini feshetti. Bu terc\u00fcme 1961 y\u0131l\u0131na kadar yak\u0131n dostlar\u0131ndan Yozgatl\u0131 \u0130hsan Efendi\u2019de mahfuz kald\u0131 ve \u00c2kif\u2019in vasiyeti \u00fczerine \u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcnden sonra \u00f6zg\u00fcn terc\u00fcme ile birlikte \u0130hsan Efendi\u2019nin kendi eliyle \u00e7o\u011faltt\u0131\u011f\u0131 n\u00fcsha yak\u0131larak imha edildi. \u00c2kif\u2019in Kur\u2019\u00e2n Me\u00e2li\u2019nden bug\u00fcne, uzun y\u0131llar M\u0131s\u0131r\u2019da ya\u015fam\u0131\u015f ve tahsil g\u00f6rm\u00fc\u015f merhum Mustafa Runyun taraf\u0131ndan korunan ve daha sonra Recep \u015eent\u00fcrk\u2019e intikal eden latin harfli daktilo edilmi\u015f bir metin kald\u0131. Ber\u00e2e S\u00fbresi\u2019nin sonuna kadarki k\u0131sm\u0131 kapsayan bu metin, Kur\u2019\u00e2n\u2019\u0131n yakla\u015f\u0131k \u00fc\u00e7te birlik k\u0131sm\u0131na tekab\u00fcl etmektedir.
