G\u00fcn\u00fcm\u00fczde sosyal demokrasi \u00f6zg\u00fcrl\u00fck, adalet ve dayan\u0131\u015fma ilkeleriyle eme\u011fin savunusunu yapmak olarak alg\u0131lanmaktad\u0131r. Sosyal demokrasi bu ilkeleri g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fc bir Marksist gelenekten s\u00fcz\u00fclerek demokratikle\u015fme s\u00fcrecinde i\u015f\u00e7i s\u0131n\u0131f\u0131n\u0131n temel de\u011ferleri olarak sunmu\u015ftur. Ancak sosyalizmden evrilen sosyal demokrasinin tam olarak ne oldu\u011fu k\u00fcreselle\u015fmeyle birlikte yeniden tart\u0131\u015fmaya a\u00e7\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Sosyal demokrasi ve dolay\u0131s\u0131yla sosyal devlet k\u00fcreselle\u015fme s\u00fcrecinde yeniden bir d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f\u00fcm ya\u015fam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. T\u00fcrkiye’de ise Sosyal Demokrasi’nin seyri ne yaz\u0131k ki Bat\u0131’da geli\u015fti\u011fi gibi geli\u015fememi\u015ftir. Bunun bir\u00e7ok sebebi olmakla birlikte sosyal demokrasiye inananlar\u0131n ciddi bir entelekt\u00fcel harekete ve ekole d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015fmemesi en \u00f6nemli sebeptir. Sadece entelekt\u00fcel anlamda de\u011fil, ayn\u0131 zamanda klasik taban\u0131ndan destek bulmamas\u0131 da siyasal anlamda bu hareketin geli\u015fmesini engellemi\u015ftir. Bat\u0131’da her zaman iktidar alternatifi olan bu d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncenin “T\u00fcrkiye’nin kendine \u00f6zg\u00fc \u015fartlar\u0131” nedeniyle anla\u015f\u0131lmamas\u0131 ya da Kemalizm ile eklemlenmesi onu ayn\u0131 zamanda iktidar alternatifi olmaktan \u00e7\u0131karm\u0131\u015f ve dar bir alana hapsetmi\u015ftir. T\u00fcrkiye’de tek parti ele\u015ftirisinin yap\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 son zamanlarda evrensel de\u011ferleri sahip bir sosyal demokrasi anlay\u0131\u015f\u0131 eskiye g\u00f6re daha elzem hale gelmi\u015fttir.
