Bilhassa M\u0131s\u0131r’\u0131n (1517) ve Rodos adas\u0131n\u0131n (1522) fethinden sonra stratejik a\u00e7\u0131dan \u00f6nemli bir hedef olma hali daha da a\u00e7\u0131k hale gelen ve Venediklilerin idaresi alt\u0131nda olan K\u0131br\u0131s, sonunda Kanuni Sultan S\u00fcleyman’\u0131n o\u011flu II. Selim d\u00f6neminde 1571’de y\u0131l\u0131nda fethedilmi\u015f, 1878 y\u0131l\u0131na kadar da Osmanl\u0131 idaresinde kalm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Osmanl\u0131lar fetihten sonra adan\u0131n stratejik ve sosyal \u00f6zelliklerine dikkat ederek onu kara ba\u011flant\u0131lar\u0131yla birlikte d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcp beylerbeyilik yahut bir eyalet haline getirdi\u011fi gibi Anadolu’dan ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilen n\u00fcfus nakilleriyle yeni bir sosyal nizam\u0131 da bug\u00fcne ula\u015facak derecelerde tesis etmi\u015ftir.
