Kaybolan Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i’nin tarih i\u00e7indeki durumu ve karakterini yeterli bi\u00e7imde ele alan eser mevcut de\u011fildir. Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i tarihi ve arkeolojisi de yeterince a\u00e7\u0131k surette ortaya koyulabilmi\u015f de\u011fildir. Elinizdeki bu kitap 1973 y\u0131l\u0131nda Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i’nin ge\u00e7mi\u015fi, o g\u00fcnk\u00fc durumu ve gelece\u011fi hakk\u0131nda d\u00fczenlenen bir sempozyum i\u00e7in Prof. Dr. Semavi Eyice taraf\u0131ndan haz\u0131rlanan bildirinin kitapla\u015fm\u0131\u015f halidir. \u00c7al\u0131\u015fmam\u0131zdaki esas gaye, Bizans devrindeki Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i hakk\u0131nda genel bir fikir vermek, \u015fimdiye kadar g\u00f6r\u00fclen ve bilinen kal\u0131nt\u0131lar\u0131 ile onu tan\u0131tmakt\u0131r. Ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan bir ger\u00e7ek de \u015fudur ki Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i’nin g\u00fczelliklerini ortaya \u00e7\u0131karan Osmanl\u0131 d\u00f6nemidir. Bizans d\u00f6neminde burada sadece k\u0131y\u0131larda belki birka\u00e7 bal\u0131k\u00e7\u0131 k\u00f6y\u00fc, tepelerde de manast\u0131rlar vard\u0131. Sadece bir saray\u0131n da varl\u0131\u011f\u0131 bilinir. Bizans \u00e7a\u011f\u0131na ait en k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck buluntular ile, mimari kal\u0131nt\u0131lar\u0131ndan tespit edilebilenlerin bulgular\u0131ndan olu\u015fan g\u00f6rsel malzemeler ilk defa olarak bu elinizdeki eserde toplan\u0131p kullan\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.
