Migration is as old as human history. Yet, the phenomenon of migration has emerged as a central theme in contemporary socio-political discourse, with profound implications for nations across the globe. Türkiye, situated at a crossroads of continents and cultures, finds itself uniquely positioned within these migration debates. As a geography between East and West, North and South, and situated along the Silk and Spice Routes, Türkiye has always been exposed to migration movements. It has historically served as a passageway for myriad migratory flows, a role that continues to evolve in complexity and significance in the twenty-first century. An overview of migration history will demonstrate the change and continuity of Türkiye’s position. Against this background, this edited volume on migration titled Migration Debates in Türkiye: Interdisciplinary and Empirical Approaches will take up current issues from an interdisciplinary perspective – ranging from sociology, international relations, political science, and economy. The fact that all chapters are based on empirical research carried out for the completion of graduate studies and conducted within the last years in Türkiye is another strength of the book.
